LankaPay celebrated a significant milestone at a press briefing in Colombo on February 25, 2026, announcing that over 260 government bodies including ministries, provincial councils, and state-owned enterprises have been successfully connected to the national digital payments ecosystem. Citizens can now pay for government services, including utility bills, land taxes, hospital fees, and vehicle licensing, entirely through digital channels.

The eighth LankaPay Technnovation Awards 2026 were also announced at the event, recognising fintech innovators under the theme of Inclusive FinTech. All government transactions are being progressively migrated to digital platforms with service charges eliminated, and QR payments below Rs. 5,000 are fee-free. LankaPay's leadership noted that digital payment adoption has materially improved transparency in government revenue collection, with transaction volumes rising sharply since 2024. The Sri Lanka FinTech Summit is scheduled for July 16-17, 2026, in Colombo, focusing on digital finance, AI, and financial inclusion.
