The move effectively bypasses the standard SLC constitutional requirement where Vice Presidents would fill vacancies, a protocol rendered moot by the fact that the entire leadership team stepped down simultaneously. Legal experts suggest this "reset" is designed to satisfy the ICC that the changes are a response to a leadership vacuum rather than a hostile government takeover.
Wickramaratne Takes the Helm
Confirming weeks of speculation, the government today officially appointed former Member of Parliament and veteran banker Eran Wickramaratne as the Chairman of the newly formed SLC Interim Committee.
Wickramaratne, widely respected for his background in high-level finance and corporate governance, is tasked with a singular mission: restoring financial transparency and institutional integrity to a board long dogged by allegations of corruption.
"The goal is not just to manage the sport, but to rebuild the trust of the fans and the international community," a Ministry spokesperson stated during the appointment ceremony this evening. "Mr. Wickramaratne’s experience in the banking sector is exactly what is needed to audit the accounts and streamline the administration."
The ICC Factor
The ICC is reportedly monitoring the situation closely. Sources within the Ministry indicate that the government has maintained a direct line of communication with Dubai to ensure the new committee meets "independent governance" standards.
